FROM LOHAR KANGNA TO THE WORLD: A NEW CHAPTER IN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION

Every community has students with extraordinary ambitions.

Some want to become doctors or engineers. Others imagine careers in technology, international business, finance, research, design, law or entrepreneurship.

For students growing up in Lohar Kangna, Nainowal Jattan and the wider Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, these ambitions may eventually lead them toward universities in Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Europe or other destinations.

But an international university journey does not have to begin at an airport.

It can begin much earlier, in a familiar school environment, with the right subjects, stronger academic skills and a thoughtful plan for higher education.

That is the opportunity behind the collaboration between Birla Open Minds International School, Hoshiarpur, Punjab, and Victoria Academy, Ontario, Canada.

Through this Canadian academic pathway, eligible students in Grades 9–12 can explore Ontario high school courses online while continuing their existing school education in India.

The idea is to make international academic preparation an extension of the student's educational journey rather than a sudden transition after Class 12.

LOCAL EDUCATION CAN BUILD THE FOUNDATION.

CANADIAN HIGH SCHOOL LEARNING CAN ADD INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE.

GLOBAL UNIVERSITY PLANNING CAN BEGIN BEFORE GRADUATION.

WHY HOSHIARPUR AND PUNJAB FAMILIES ARE THINKING BEYOND NATIONAL BORDERS

Hoshiarpur forms an important part of Punjab's Doaba region, a region known for its longstanding connections with overseas Punjabi communities.

For many families across the district, international education is not an unfamiliar idea.

Students may hear about universities abroad through relatives, neighbours, family friends or members of the wider community.

Some families may have connections in Canada.

Others may know people living in the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States or elsewhere.

These relationships can make the possibility of higher education overseas feel more accessible.

However, there is a difference between knowing someone who studies abroad and understanding how to prepare academically for an international university.

A student might know that a cousin attends university in Toronto.

But does the student understand which Grade 12 subjects are required for a particular Canadian university program?

A parent might be familiar with universities in the United Kingdom.

But does the family understand how different institutions evaluate Canadian high school qualifications?

Another family may be considering Australia.

But have they compared the academic prerequisites, tuition, scholarships and English-language requirements?

These questions show why international education requires structured planning.

Aspiration creates the motivation. Academic preparation creates the pathway.

A VILLAGE ADDRESS SHOULD NOT LIMIT A STUDENT'S UNIVERSITY AMBITIONS

A student may live in Village Lohar Kangna, receive correspondence through Nainowal Jattan Post Office and attend school within Hoshiarpur district.

That local address is part of the student's identity.

It reflects home, family, language, community and the familiar environment in which learning begins.

But it should not define the limits of future educational opportunities.

Online education can make additional academic pathways accessible to students who live beyond major metropolitan centres.

A student does not necessarily need to move to Delhi, Chandigarh or another large city simply to begin exploring Canadian high school education.

Through Victoria Academy's online pathway, eligible students can access Ontario courses while remaining in Punjab.

This can create a meaningful connection between a local school community and an international academic system.

A STUDENT CAN REMAIN ROOTED IN HOSHIARPUR WHILE DEVELOPING A GLOBAL ACADEMIC OUTLOOK.

THE STORY OF A FAMILY PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

Imagine a family living in Hoshiarpur district.

Their child is studying in Grade 10 and enjoys mathematics and science.

At home, the family begins discussing what should happen after Class 12.

One relative recommends Canada.

Another suggests Australia.

A family friend mentions universities in the United Kingdom.

The student begins searching for engineering programs.

But the family quickly discovers that choosing a country is only one part of the process.

Different universities require different subjects.

Some expect particular mathematics courses.

Some engineering programs require physics and chemistry.

Scholarship requirements vary.

English-language policies differ.

Application deadlines may begin earlier than expected.

The family realizes that preparing for an international university is more complicated than selecting a destination.

Now imagine beginning that research earlier.

The student identifies possible careers.

The family learns how university prerequisites work.

The student's academic plan begins reflecting those requirements.

The student also gains experience with an Ontario high school course through Victoria Academy.

By the time university applications become relevant, the family may be better informed about the available choices.

This is a hypothetical example, but it illustrates the purpose of early international academic planning.

The goal is not simply to help students choose where to go.

The goal is to help them understand what they need to achieve before they go.

WHAT IS THE ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA?

Understanding the OSSD

OSSD stands for Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

It is the high school graduation credential of the Canadian province of Ontario.

Students earn the OSSD by successfully completing the applicable Ontario secondary-school graduation requirements.

These requirements include Ontario academic credits and other graduation obligations established under provincial education policy.

The OSSD is not simply one online class, a short training course or a single final examination.

It represents a complete secondary-school graduation pathway.

Victoria Academy, Ontario, Canada, provides eligible students with Ontario high school courses and an OSSD pathway.

Students who successfully complete all applicable graduation requirements may earn the full Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

For international students, the OSSD can provide a structured Canadian academic pathway that may be relevant when applying to universities that accept Ontario secondary-school qualifications.

MEET THE CANADIAN ACADEMIC PARTNER: VICTORIA ACADEMY

Victoria Academy is an Ontario private high school providing secondary-school education for eligible students in Grades 9–12.

School Name: Victoria Academy

Location: Ontario, Canada

Grades: 9–12

BSID: 884963

Academic Pathway: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)

The school provides the Canadian academic component, including approved Ontario courses, academic assessment, student records and applicable graduation planning.

The actual Ontario school responsible for the pathway is important.

Students and parents should always know which school is providing the courses and maintaining their academic records.

WHAT DOES BSID #884963 REPRESENT?

BSID stands for Board School Identification Number.

Victoria Academy's BSID is:

884963

When considering an online Ontario high school pathway, families should understand the identity of the school responsible for Canadian credits.

A properly structured pathway should make it clear who manages:

Student admission.

Ontario course enrollment.

Academic assessment.

Student records.

Credit completion.

Graduation planning.

Academic guidance.

For this pathway, those Ontario academic responsibilities belong to Victoria Academy.

CanadaBoard.ca is the international information and partnership platform associated with Victoria Academy, not a separate Canadian government education board.

ONE STUDENT, TWO COMPLEMENTARY ACADEMIC PATHWAYS

The Canadian pathway is designed to work alongside the student's existing school education where academically appropriate.

For eligible students at Birla Open Minds International School, this can mean continuing their regular studies while undertaking additional Ontario courses through Victoria Academy.

The student can remain part of their local educational community.

They can continue attending their regular classes.

They can participate in school activities.

They can remain connected to their teachers and friends.

At the same time, they can begin developing Ontario high school experience.

The model brings together two distinct educational components:

EXISTING SCHOOL EDUCATION IN PUNJAB

The student's regular school program and daily learning environment.

CANADIAN HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION THROUGH VICTORIA ACADEMY

Approved Ontario courses, academic credits and the applicable OSSD pathway.

The purpose is to expand academic possibilities without unnecessarily disrupting the student's existing education.

STUDY CANADIAN HIGH SCHOOL COURSES WITHOUT MOVING TO CANADA

For many parents, sending a teenager abroad during high school is a major decision.

It may involve international tuition, accommodation, guardian arrangements, living expenses, transportation, insurance and separation from family.

Some families are comfortable with that decision.

Others prefer that their children remain at home until university.

Online Ontario high school education creates another option.

Eligible students can begin Canadian coursework while continuing to live in India.

This allows students to gain international academic experience without immediately relocating.

Families can then consider overseas university options later, when the student is older and future academic goals are clearer.

INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC PREPARATION CAN BEGIN BEFORE INTERNATIONAL RELOCATION.

WHY EARLY OSSD PLANNING MAY BE VALUABLE FOR HOSHIARPUR STUDENTS

University preparation is not simply about obtaining good marks in the final year of high school.

Students must also consider whether they have studied the correct subjects.

A student with excellent grades may still be missing a required university prerequisite.

For example, some engineering programs require particular senior mathematics and science courses.

Computer science programs may emphasize mathematics.

Health-science programs may require selected sciences.

Business or economics degrees may have specific mathematics requirements.

Creative programs may involve portfolio requirements.

These expectations differ across universities.

Starting academic planning earlier gives students more time to understand and meet them.

CHOOSE THE UNIVERSITY PROGRAM BEFORE FINALIZING THE SCHOOL COURSE PLAN

A thoughtful approach to international education begins with the student's goals.

The planning sequence can look like this:

STUDENT'S INTERESTS

↓

POSSIBLE CAREER FIELDS

↓

UNIVERSITY DEGREE OPTIONS

↓

PROGRAM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

↓

REQUIRED GRADE 11 AND GRADE 12 SUBJECTS

↓

INDIVIDUAL OSSD COURSE PLAN

This approach connects high school learning with future educational opportunities.

The aim is not to collect credits without direction.

It is to select the appropriate credits for the student's academic future.

A GRADE-BY-GRADE APPROACH TO INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION PREPARATION

Different stages of secondary school offer different opportunities for planning.

GRADE 9 — DISCOVER AND DEVELOP

Students entering Grade 9 can begin exploring their interests and academic strengths.

Some may enjoy science.

Others may prefer business, languages, creative subjects or technology.

At this stage, students can begin developing independent study habits, communication skills and familiarity with different academic expectations.

GRADE 10 — EXPLORE FUTURE DIRECTIONS

Grade 10 is an important time to begin understanding possible career fields.

Students can research different university programs and identify the subjects that may be needed later.

They can also develop stronger academic habits before senior secondary education.

GRADE 11 — CONNECT SUBJECTS WITH UNIVERSITY GOALS

Grade 11 often becomes especially important for students considering international university programs.

Students should begin researching specific prerequisites before selecting their final Grade 12 courses.

Ontario course planning should reflect the student's intended future direction.

GRADE 12 — COMPLETE REQUIREMENTS AND PREPARE APPLICATIONS

Grade 12 students may be balancing major examinations, academic projects, graduation requirements and university applications.

For students entering the Ontario pathway at this stage, previous academic history and remaining requirements must be carefully reviewed.

A late-entry student should never assume that a full diploma can automatically be completed through only a few courses.

An individual academic review is essential.

CAN PREVIOUS INDIAN SCHOOL STUDIES BE RECOGNIZED?

Potentially.

Students entering the Ontario pathway may already have completed several years of secondary-school education.

Ontario provides procedures for evaluating eligible previous learning.

Victoria Academy may review documents such as:

Previous marksheets.

Academic transcripts.

Report cards.

Completed grades.

Subjects studied.

Years of schooling.

Other required educational records.

The review can help determine whether previous education qualifies for Ontario credit recognition or equivalency.

Recognition depends on the student's documented academic background and applicable Ontario requirements.

This can help avoid unnecessarily repeating eligible previous learning.

However, no particular number of recognized credits is guaranteed before the academic review is completed.

WHY AN INDIVIDUAL CREDIT AUDIT MATTERS

A Grade 9 student and a Grade 12 student do not begin from the same academic position.

Likewise, two Grade 11 students may have studied different subjects and may be pursuing different university goals.

Their Ontario pathways may therefore differ.

An academic review can help determine:

Which previous studies may be recognized.

Which Ontario credits remain outstanding.

Which compulsory requirements apply.

Whether additional graduation requirements must be completed.

Which university prerequisites are needed.

What course sequence is appropriate.

The result should be an individual academic plan rather than a generic course package.

HOW MANY CREDITS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE FULL OSSD?

The Ontario Secondary School Diploma generally requires a minimum of:

30 CREDITS

along with the other applicable Ontario graduation requirements.

The distribution between compulsory and optional credits depends on the student's Grade 9 entry cohort.

Students entering Grade 9 beginning in the 2024–25 school year generally follow the newer 17 compulsory and 13 optional credit structure.

Earlier cohorts may follow the previous credit distribution.

Additional graduation requirements can include:

Ontario's secondary-school literacy requirement.

Community involvement.

Applicable online-learning requirements.

Financial-literacy requirements for specified newer cohorts.

Other requirements under current Ontario policy.

International transfer students need an individual review to determine the requirements applicable to them.

WHAT IS AN ONTARIO HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT?

A standard full-credit Ontario secondary-school course generally involves at least 110 hours of scheduled learning.

Students must meet the applicable course expectations and achieve a passing result.

Each successfully completed approved course contributes to the student's academic record.

However, completing one Ontario course is not the same as earning the full OSSD.

The diploma is awarded only after all applicable graduation requirements have been satisfied.

This distinction is important for parents researching Canadian high school education.

HOW DOES ONLINE ONTARIO HIGH SCHOOL LEARNING WORK?

Eligible Victoria Academy students can complete approved coursework through an online learning environment.

Depending on the course, learning activities may include:

Structured digital lessons.

Recorded learning resources.

Assignments.

Quizzes.

Tests.

Research tasks.

Projects.

Written work.

Presentations.

Teacher feedback.

Academic support.

Progress monitoring.

Students are expected to engage with the learning material and demonstrate achievement according to the course requirements.

Online learning can offer scheduling flexibility, but it still requires regular effort and academic responsibility.

ONE ONTARIO COURSE AT A TIME: A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Parents may be concerned that an additional Canadian high school pathway will create too much work.

For students continuing another school program, workload should be managed carefully.

Victoria Academy's parallel pathway generally encourages students to begin with:

ONE ONTARIO COURSE AT A TIME.

For some students, approximately 1 to 1.5 hours of additional daily study may be a useful planning estimate.

However, actual study requirements depend on:

The selected course.

Student ability.

Academic background.

Assignment requirements.

Learning pace.

Approved study schedule.

The purpose is to create sustainable academic progress rather than unnecessary pressure.

BALANCING OSSD WITH EXISTING SCHOOL EDUCATION

Students have responsibilities beyond the additional Ontario course.

They may already be completing regular school lessons, homework, examinations, assignments, extracurricular activities and family commitments.

The Canadian pathway should therefore be planned around realistic expectations.

Where permitted under the approved academic plan, the timing of Ontario coursework may take important local examinations into account.

Any change in course scheduling must follow the applicable school policies and course requirements.

Students should not assume that an Ontario course can be paused without approval.

INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC SKILLS BEGIN WITH INDEPENDENT LEARNING

One of the biggest transitions from high school to university is increased independence.

At university, students may be expected to manage their own reading, research, assignments and deadlines.

They may have several academic projects underway simultaneously.

They may need to organize group work or prepare presentations with limited daily supervision.

Online high school learning can provide opportunities to develop similar habits earlier.

These include:

Planning study time.

Completing assignments independently.

Tracking deadlines.

Asking questions when support is needed.

Reviewing feedback.

Taking responsibility for academic progress.

These skills are useful regardless of the country where students eventually attend university.

MOVING BEYOND MEMORIZATION TOWARD DEEPER UNDERSTANDING

Strong academic performance involves more than remembering information.

Students also need to understand how to use what they know.

For example:

A mathematics student should understand how to apply formulas to unfamiliar problems.

A science student should be able to explain reasoning and interpret evidence.

A business student should be able to analyze situations and evaluate choices.

A humanities student should be able to support conclusions with evidence.

Ontario coursework may provide students with opportunities to demonstrate these different forms of understanding.

This can help students become more comfortable with the academic expectations they may encounter later.

RESEARCH AND PROJECT WORK AS UNIVERSITY PREPARATION

Students entering higher education may be asked to complete research assignments requiring independent investigation.

They may need to evaluate sources, organize information and communicate conclusions.

A Canadian high school pathway can introduce students to learning activities that build these capabilities.

Depending on the course, students may practise:

Research.

Academic writing.

Projects.

Problem-solving.

Presentations.

Analysis.

Evaluation.

These are transferable skills that can remain relevant throughout higher education and professional life.

HOW ARE ONTARIO COURSES ASSESSED?

Ontario secondary-school courses use assessment and evaluation procedures established under applicable provincial policy.

Depending on the course and grade, students may complete:

Assignments.

Tests.

Quizzes.

Research activities.

Projects.

Presentations.

Written work.

Course activities.

Final evaluations.

Examinations where required.

Students should refer to the current Victoria Academy course outline for the applicable assessment structure and weighting.

The purpose is to evaluate student achievement according to the requirements of the course.

FEEDBACK AND IMPROVEMENT CAN BECOME PART OF THE LEARNING CULTURE

Students sometimes think that receiving a mark is the end of an academic task.

A more productive approach is to examine the feedback.

What was done well?

Which concepts need improvement?

Was the reasoning clear?

Could the answer be better structured?

Were important details missing?

How can the next assignment be stronger?

This creates a cycle:

LEARN → APPLY → RECEIVE FEEDBACK → REFLECT → IMPROVE

Over time, students can develop greater confidence in evaluating and improving their own academic work.

ENGLISH COMMUNICATION FOR INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY SUCCESS

English-language ability can be important for students planning to study at universities where English is the language of instruction.

Students may need to understand lectures, read academic materials, write reports, participate in discussions and communicate with professors.

Therefore, English development should not be viewed only as preparation for an examination.

It is also preparation for future academic communication.

Ontario coursework can give students additional opportunities to practise academic English through reading, writing, research and other learning activities.

CAREER PATHWAY: ENGINEERING AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES

Students interested in engineering should understand the importance of academic prerequisites.

Possible university interests include:

Mechanical Engineering.

Civil Engineering.

Electrical Engineering.

Computer Engineering.

Chemical Engineering.

Physics.

Technology.

Architecture-related programs.

Depending on the institution, relevant Ontario prerequisites may include advanced mathematics, calculus, physics, chemistry and English.

The exact requirements vary by university and program.

Early planning can help students avoid missing important subjects.

CAREER PATHWAY: COMPUTER SCIENCE, AI AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Students interested in the digital economy may consider:

Computer Science.

Software Engineering.

Artificial Intelligence.

Machine Learning.

Data Science.

Many of these programs require strong mathematics preparation.

Students should investigate specific university requirements before choosing senior secondary courses.

The correct academic pathway depends on the intended degree and institution.

CAREER PATHWAY: MEDICAL, HEALTH AND LIFE SCIENCES

Students interested in health-related higher education may explore:

Health Sciences.

Biological Sciences.

Life Sciences.

Biomedical Sciences.

Nursing.

Public Health.

Other health-related programs.

Depending on the university, prerequisites may include biology, chemistry, mathematics, English or other subjects.

Professional pathways vary significantly between countries.

Students should confirm both university admission requirements and any longer-term professional requirements relevant to their intended field.

CAREER PATHWAY: BUSINESS, FINANCE AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Business-related fields may attract students interested in commerce, management or entrepreneurship.

Possible degrees include:

Business Administration.

Commerce.

Accounting.

Finance.

Economics.

Marketing.

Management.

International Business.

Entrepreneurship.

Some university programs require specific senior mathematics courses.

Others may use different subject combinations.

Students should select Ontario courses according to the intended university program rather than relying on one standard business course package.

CAREER PATHWAY: ECONOMICS, STATISTICS AND DATA ANALYTICS

Students interested in quantitative fields should pay attention to mathematics.

Possible university programs include:

Economics.

Statistics.

Financial Economics.

Data Analytics.

Business Analytics.

Quantitative Finance.

The academic prerequisites vary.

Students should research the requirements of universities they may apply to and plan their Grade 11 and Grade 12 subjects accordingly.

CAREER PATHWAY: LAW, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Students interested in the social sciences may explore:

Law-related undergraduate pathways.

Political Science.

History.

Psychology.

Sociology.

International Relations.

Public Policy.

Humanities.

Communication.

These fields may emphasize English, research, critical thinking and analytical writing.

However, each university and program establishes its own admission criteria.

CAREER PATHWAY: ARTS, DESIGN AND CREATIVE INDUSTRIES

Some students may be interested in creative academic programs.

These may include:

Fine Arts.

Graphic Design.

Media.

Film.

Animation.

Digital Communication.

Creative Industries.

Architecture-related design.

Some institutions require a portfolio, interview or supplementary application in addition to academic prerequisites.

Students should investigate these requirements early enough to prepare appropriate materials.

WHAT IF A STUDENT HAS NOT CHOSEN A CAREER?

Not every Grade 9 or Grade 10 student knows what they want to become.

That is normal.

Students may discover new interests as they progress through school.

For undecided students, a sensible approach can focus on maintaining appropriate academic flexibility.

This may involve strengthening:

English.

Mathematics.

Science fundamentals.

Communication.

Research.

Problem-solving.

Time management.

The student's pathway can become more specific as their academic interests develop.

OSSD STUDENTS CAN EXPLORE UNIVERSITIES IN MULTIPLE COUNTRIES

An Ontario high school academic record may be considered by universities that accept Ontario secondary-school qualifications.

Students may explore higher-education opportunities in destinations including:

Canada

United States

United Kingdom

Australia

New Zealand

European Countries

United Arab Emirates

Asian Countries

India

Other International Destinations

Admission is determined independently by each university.

Students must satisfy the institution's academic prerequisites, required grades and any other admission conditions.

The OSSD itself does not guarantee admission.

WHY STUDENTS SHOULD NOT LIMIT THEMSELVES TO ONE INTERNATIONAL DESTINATION

Many Punjab families are interested in Canada.

That interest may come from personal connections, familiar communities or particular university opportunities.

However, students should compare multiple destinations where appropriate.

Different countries may offer different academic programs, fee structures, scholarships and student experiences.

The correct choice depends on:

The student's intended degree.

University quality and suitability.

Admission requirements.

Tuition.

Living expenses.

Scholarships.

Career interests.

Family circumstances.

Country-specific requirements.

A strong academic profile can help students explore several possibilities rather than relying on one destination alone.

UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS: WHY ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE MATTERS

Many universities offer scholarships for eligible students.

Some are based on academic averages.

Others may be competitive and include additional criteria.

Scholarship opportunities can include:

Entrance scholarships.

Merit awards.

International student scholarships.

Program-specific awards.

Leadership scholarships.

Other institutional funding.

Scholarship policies differ between institutions.

Students should begin researching scholarships early because eligibility rules and application deadlines may vary.

No university scholarship should be treated as automatic or guaranteed.

CAN OSSD STUDENTS RECEIVE AN IELTS WAIVER?

Some universities may provide English-language proficiency testing flexibility to eligible Ontario high school students or graduates.

However:

OSSD DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY GUARANTEE AN IELTS WAIVER.

Each university sets its own policies.

Depending on the institution and program, a student may still need IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo English Test or another accepted form of evidence.

Students should verify the current requirements of their intended universities.

VICTORIA ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Victoria Academy offers scholarship opportunities for eligible students subject to applicable assessment and admission criteria.

The standard annual tuition previously advertised for the pathway is:

CAD $18,000

Eligible students may receive substantial scholarship support.

Depending on the official scholarship offer, support may be approximately:

80%–85%

Illustrative tuition after an eligible scholarship may be approximately:

CAD $2,700–$3,600 PER YEAR

These amounts are illustrative rather than guaranteed.

Final tuition depends on the student's scholarship result, grade, academic plan, applicable fees and official offer conditions.

For families in India, the equivalent amount in Indian rupees also depends on the exchange rate.

The official Victoria Academy offer letter and invoice determine the final financial terms.

HOW CAN A BIRLA OPEN MINDS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL STUDENT BEGIN?

The local partner school is not required to collect Victoria Academy's Canadian tuition.

Depending on the student's official offer and invoice, payment arrangements may include:

Full payment.

Semi-annual payment.

Quarterly payment.

Families should follow the official Victoria Academy payment instructions applicable to their student.

PARENTS SHOULD REMAIN INVOLVED IN INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC PLANNING

A student's education is more effective when parents understand the academic pathway.

Parents should know:

Which Ontario course is being studied.

What work is expected.

How progress is evaluated.

Which credits have been completed.

What requirements remain.

How the academic plan relates to future university goals.

Victoria Academy's pathway can include academic guidance, progress information and relevant communication with families.

The aim is a structured learning experience with clear academic direction.

BIRLA OPEN MINDS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL REMAINS THE LOCAL EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION

The Canadian pathway is intended to complement the student's existing school experience.

Students at Birla Open Minds International School can remain connected to their regular education, school activities and community while eligible students undertake additional Ontario coursework.

Partnership-related activities may include:

Student information sessions.

Parent orientation.

Scholarship assessments.

Canadian high school awareness.

Academic pathway discussions.

Student coordination.

University-preparation guidance.

Victoria Academy remains responsible for its Ontario academic component.

WHY THIS PARTNERSHIP CAN MATTER FOR STUDENTS IN LOHAR KANGNA AND NAINOWAL JATTAN

Families in smaller communities may have the same international education ambitions as families living in major cities.

The main difference may be access to information and academic opportunities.

A structured online pathway can help reduce that gap.

For students in Lohar Kangna and the surrounding Hoshiarpur region, the Canadian pathway may create opportunities to learn about:

Ontario high school education.

International academic expectations.

University prerequisites.

Canadian course codes.

Scholarship criteria.

Global degree options.

The student can begin this preparation without immediately leaving home.

A NEW WAY TO THINK ABOUT OVERSEAS EDUCATION IN DOABA

For families in Punjab's Doaba region, studying abroad is often discussed as an important future milestone.

But the quality of that decision depends on how well the student is prepared.

A better discussion should include:

What does the student genuinely want to study?

Which universities provide suitable programs?

Are the required subjects being completed?

What grades may be necessary?

Which scholarships should be researched?

What academic skills need improvement?

What are the alternatives if the first university choice does not work out?

These questions help move the conversation from general aspiration to informed planning.

BUILD A STRONG ACADEMIC PROFILE BEFORE MAKING A FINAL COUNTRY DECISION

Students do not need to select their final university destination at the beginning of high school.

They can first focus on developing:

Strong academic results.

Appropriate subject knowledge.

Independent study skills.

Academic communication.

Research ability.

Problem-solving.

University awareness.

Understanding of prerequisites.

Over time, the student's preferred degree and destination may become clearer.

The goal is to build flexibility.

THE VALUE OF AN INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC PATHWAY EXTENDS BEYOND THE DIPLOMA

The OSSD is an important graduation credential.

However, the academic experience of working toward it can also be valuable.

Students may develop familiarity with:

Ontario courses.

Canadian academic expectations.

Online learning systems.

Research-based work.

Presentations.

Course assessment.

Academic feedback.

Independent study.

University prerequisites.

These experiences can help students make more informed educational decisions.

The diploma matters, but the learning that takes place along the way matters too.
